Even if only a tenth of the people remain in the land, it will again be destroyed, like one of the large sacred trees or an Asherah pole, when a sacred pillar on a high place is thrown down. That sacred pillar symbolizes the special chosen family.”

假令其中尚存什一、亦被焚燬、若栗與橡、經伐留幹、其幹乃聖裔也、

其中居民、尚存什一、屢遭喪敗、譬彼橡樹、雖經斬伐、猶留其幹、為善之人亦若是。

其中所遺、雖僅十分之一、亦歸滅絕、然猶存聖裔、為斯地之根本、如栗樹橡樹、雖經斬伐、根本尚存、或作譬彼栗樹橡樹斬伐枝條尚留根株聖種猶存為斯地之根本亦復若是

And though a tenth remains in the land, it will again be laid waste. But as the terebinth and oak leave stumps when they are cut down, so the holy seed will be the stump in the land.”

Suppose only a tenth of the people remain there. Even then the land will be completely destroyed again. But when oak trees and terebinth trees are cut down, stumps are left. And my holy people will be like stumps that begin to grow again.”

And though a tenth remain in it, it will be burned again, like a terebinth or an oak, whose stump remains when it is felled.” The holy seed is its stump.

If even a tenth— a remnant— survive, it will be invaded again and burned. But as a terebinth or oak tree leaves a stump when it is cut down, so Israel’s stump will be a holy seed.”

Though a tenth will remain in the land, it will be burned again. Like the terebinth or the oak that leaves a stump when felled, the holy seed is the stump.

Yet there will still be a tenth portion in it, And it will again be subject to burning, Like a terebinth or an oak Whose stump remains when it is cut down. The holy seed is its stump.”

But yet a tenth will be in it, And will return and be for consuming, As a terebinth tree or as an oak, Whose stump remains when it is cut down. So the holy seed shall be its stump.”

And if there be yet a tenth in it, it also shall in turn be eaten up: as a terebinth, and as an oak, whose stock remaineth, when they are felled; so the holy seed is the stock thereof.

Though a tenth will remain in the land, it will be burned again. Like the terebinth or the oak that leaves a stump when felled, the holy seed is the stump.

But yet in it[ shall be] a tenth, and[ it] shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance[ is] in them, when they cast[ their leaves: so] the holy seed[ shall be] the substance thereof.

If there is a tenth left in it, that also will in turn be consumed, as a terebinth, and as an oak, whose stump remains when they are cut down; so the holy seed is its stock.”

“ But there is hope for a tree: If it is cut down, it will sprout again, and its new shoots will not fail.Although its roots may grow old in the ground and its stump begins to die in the soil,at the scent of water it will flourish and put forth shoots like a new plant.

So in the same way at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.And if it is by grace, it is no longer by works, otherwise grace would no longer be grace.

If the LORD who commands armies had not left us a few survivors, we would have quickly become like Sodom, we would have become like Gomorrah.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female– for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to the promise.

Indeed, they have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and for their sons, so that the holy race has become intermingled with the local residents. Worse still, the leaders and the officials have been at the forefront of all of this!”

If the first portion of the dough offered is holy, then the whole batch is holy, and if the root is holy, so too are the branches.Now if some of the branches were broken off, and you, a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among them and participated in the richness of the olive root,do not boast over the branches. But if you boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you.Then you will say,“ The branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in.”Granted! They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but fear!For if God did not spare the natural branches, perhaps he will not spare you.Notice therefore the kindness and harshness of God– harshness toward those who have fallen, but God’s kindness toward you, provided you continue in his kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off.And even they– if they do not continue in their unbelief– will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.For if you were cut off from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and grafted, contrary to nature, into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these natural branches be grafted back into their own olive tree?For I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited: A partial hardening has happened to Israel until the full number of the Gentiles has come in.And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written:“ The Deliverer will come out of Zion; he will remove ungodliness from Jacob.And this is my covenant with them, when I take away their sins.”In regard to the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but in regard to election they are dearly loved for the sake of the fathers.For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable.

Because you have obeyed me, all the nations of the earth will pronounce blessings on one another using the name of your descendants.’”

And if those days had not been cut short, no one would be saved. But for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.

Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his descendant. Scripture does not say,“ and to the descendants,” referring to many, but“ and to your descendant,” referring to one, who is Christ.What I am saying is this: The law that came four hundred thirty years later does not cancel a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to invalidate the promise.For if the inheritance is based on the law, it is no longer based on the promise, but God graciously gave it to Abraham through the promise.Why then was the law given? It was added because of transgressions, until the arrival of the descendant to whom the promise had been made. It was administered through angels by an intermediary.

At that time those left in Israel, those who remain of the family of Jacob, will no longer rely on a foreign leader that abuses them. Instead they will truly rely on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel.A remnant will come back, a remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God.For though your people, Israel, are as numerous as the sand on the seashore, only a remnant will come back. Destruction has been decreed; just punishment is about to engulf you.

And if the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would be saved. But because of the elect, whom he chose, he has cut them short.

This is what the LORD says:“ When juice is discovered in a cluster of grapes, someone says,‘ Don’t destroy it, for it contains juice.’ So I will do for the sake of my servants– I will not destroy everyone.I will bring forth descendants from Jacob, and from Judah people to take possession of my mountains. My chosen ones will take possession of the land; my servants will live there.

To them belong the patriarchs, and from them, by human descent, came the Christ, who is God over all, blessed forever! Amen.

“ I am the true vine and my Father is the gardener.He takes away every branch that does not bear fruit in me. He prunes every branch that bears fruit so that it will bear more fruit.You are clean already because of the word that I have spoken to you.

No one who has even a small portion of the Spirit in him does this. What did our ancestor do when seeking a child from God? Be attentive, then, to your own spirit, for one should not be disloyal to the wife he took in his youth.

Those remaining in Zion, those left in Jerusalem, will be called“ holy,” all in Jerusalem who are destined to live.
