約西亞的兒子猶大王約雅敬第四年，尼利亞的兒子巴錄把耶利米先知口中所說的話寫在書上；耶利米對巴錄說：「巴錄啊，耶和華－以色列的上帝說：你曾說：『哀哉！耶和華使我愁上加愁，我因呻吟而困乏，不得安歇。』

王吩咐王的兒子耶拉篾、亞斯列的兒子西萊雅和亞伯疊的兒子示利米雅，去捉拿巴錄文士和耶利米先知；耶和華卻將他們隱藏起來。

於是官長們對王說：「求你把這人處死，因他向城裏剩下的士兵和眾人說這樣的話，使他們的手發軟。這人不是為這百姓求平安，而是叫他們受災禍。」

耶利米召了尼利亞的兒子巴錄來；巴錄就從耶利米口中，把耶和華對耶利米所說的一切話寫在書卷上。

巴錄就在耶和華殿的上院，靠近耶和華殿的新門口，沙番的兒子基瑪利雅文士的房間裏，宣讀書卷上耶利米的話給眾百姓親耳聽。

「人若因我辱罵你們，迫害你們，捏造各樣壞話毀謗你們，你們就有福了！要歡喜快樂，因為你們在天上的賞賜是很多的。在你們以前的先知，人也是這樣迫害他們。」

他們與我作對回報我的愛，但我專心祈禱。

人為人子的緣故憎恨你們，拒絕你們，辱罵你們，把你們當惡人除掉你們的名，你們就有福了！在那日，你們要歡欣雀躍，因為你們在天上的賞賜是很多的；他們的祖宗也是這樣待先知的。

人都說你們好的時候，你們有禍了！因為他們的祖宗也是這樣待假先知的。」
