For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country of their own.If indeed they had been thinking of that country from which they went out, they would have had enough time to return.But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.

The Holy Spirit is indicating this, that the way into the Holy Place wasn’t yet revealed while the first tabernacle was still standing.

that no one would be moved by these afflictions. For you know that we are appointed to this task.For most certainly, when we were with you, we told you beforehand that we are to suffer affliction, even as it happened, and you know.

“ If anyone comes to me, and doesn’t disregard his own father, mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he can’t be my disciple.Whoever doesn’t bear his own cross, and come after me, can’t be my disciple.For which of you, desiring to build a tower, doesn’t first sit down and count the cost, to see if he has enough to complete it?Or perhaps, when he has laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, everyone who sees begins to mock him,saying,‘ This man began to build, and wasn’t able to finish.’Or what king, as he goes to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an envoy, and asks for conditions of peace.So therefore whoever of you who doesn’t renounce all that he has, he can’t be my disciple.

He who overcomes, I will give to him to sit down with me on my throne, as I also overcame, and sat down with my Father on his throne.

so that we ourselves boast about you in the assemblies of God for your perseverance and faith in all your persecutions and in the afflictions which you endure.This is an obvious sign of the righteous judgment of God, to the end that you may be counted worthy of God’s Kingdom, for which you also suffer.Since it is a righteous thing with God to repay affliction to those who afflict you,and to give relief to you who are afflicted with us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire,punishing those who don’t know God, and to those who don’t obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus,who will pay the penalty: eternal destruction from the face of the Lord and from the glory of his might,when he comes in that day to be glorified in his saints and to be admired among all those who have believed, because our testimony to you was believed.

For God didn’t appoint us to wrath, but to the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

For I will show him how many things he must suffer for my name’s sake.”

He carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,having the glory of God. Her light was like a most precious stone, as if it were a jasper stone, clear as crystal;having a great and high wall; having twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels; and names written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel.On the east were three gates; and on the north three gates; and on the south three gates; and on the west three gates.The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them twelve names of the twelve Apostles of the Lamb.He who spoke with me had for a measure a golden reed to measure the city, its gates, and its walls.The city is square, and its length is as great as its width. He measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand twelve stadia. Its length, width, and height are equal.Its wall is one hundred forty- four cubits, by the measure of a man, that is, of an angel.The construction of its wall was jasper. The city was pure gold, like pure glass.The foundations of the city’s wall were adorned with all kinds of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, chalcedony; the fourth, emerald;the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprase; the eleventh, jacinth; and the twelfth, amethyst.The twelve gates were twelve pearls. Each one of the gates was made of one pearl. The street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God, the Almighty, and the Lamb, are its temple.The city has no need for the sun or moon to shine, for the very glory of God illuminated it, and its lamp is the Lamb.The nations will walk in its light. The kings of the earth bring the glory and honor of the nations into it.Its gates will in no way be shut by day( for there will be no night there),and they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it so that they may enter.There will in no way enter into it anything profane, or one who causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
