“ I’m sure you must know how things have always been. They’ve been that way ever since human beings were placed on this earth.

豈不知自亙古、自有人在世以來、作惡者歡呼不長、偽善者喜樂不過俄頃、

“ Surely you know how it has been from of old, ever since mankind was placed on the earth,

Do you not know this from of old, since man was placed on earth,

“ Don’t you realize that from the beginning of time, ever since people were first placed on the earth,

Don’t you know that ever since antiquity, from the time a human was placed on earth,

Do you know this from ancient times, From the establishment of mankind on earth,

“ Do you not know this of old, Since man was placed on earth,

Knowest thou not this of old time, Since man was placed upon earth,

Don’t you know that ever since antiquity, from the time man was placed on earth,

Knowest thou[ not] this of old, since man was placed upon earth,

“ Surely you know that it has been from old, ever since humankind was placed on the earth,

Don’t you know this from old time, since man was placed on earth,

I thought,‘ Those who are older should speak first. Those who have lived for many years should teach people how to be wise.’

“ Find out what our parents taught. Discover what those who lived before them learned.After all, we were born only yesterday. So we don’t know anything. Our days on this earth are like a shadow that disappears.

Then God blessed Noah and his sons. He said to them,“ Have children so that there are many of you. Fill the earth.All the land animals will be afraid of you. All the birds in the sky will be afraid of you. Every creature that moves along the ground will be afraid of you. So will every fish in the seas. Every living thing is put under your control.Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. I have already given you the green plants for food. Now I am giving you everything.

God blessed them. He said to them,“ Have children so that there will be many of you. Fill the earth and bring it under your control. Rule over the fish in the seas and the birds in the sky. Rule over every living creature that moves along the ground.”

The highest heavens belong to the Lord. But he has given the earth to human beings.

People who are old and gray are on our side. And they are even older than your parents!
