But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”

But here is what happens when people listen to my words and do not obey them. They are like a man who builds a house on soft ground instead of solid rock. The moment the river rushes against that house, it falls down. It is completely destroyed.”

But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house right on the ground, without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.”

Whoever walks blamelessly is kept safe; but one with perverse ways will fall suddenly.

“ The farmer went out to sow his seed. As he sowed, some fell along the road, and it was trampled under foot, and the birds of the sky devoured it.Other seed fell on the rock, and as soon as it grew, it withered away, because it had no moisture.Other fell amid the thorns, and the thorns grew with it, and choked it.

For this cause I also, when I couldn’t stand it any longer, sent that I might know your faith, for fear that by any means the tempter had tempted you, and our labor would have been in vain.

They went out from us, but they didn’t belong to us; for if they had belonged to us, they would have continued with us. But they left, that they might be revealed that none of them belong to us.

They have no root in themselves, but are short- lived. When oppression or persecution arises because of the word, immediately they stumble.

Yes, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence; and in moral excellence, knowledge;and in knowledge, self- control; and in self- control perseverance; and in perseverance godliness;and in godliness brotherly affection; and in brotherly affection, love.For if these things are yours and abound, they make you to not be idle or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.For he who lacks these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old sins.

When an unclean spirit has gone out of a man, he passes through waterless places, seeking rest, and doesn’t find it.Then he says,‘ I will return into my house from which I came out,’ and when he has come back, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order.Then he goes, and takes with himself seven other spirits more evil than he is, and they enter in and dwell there. The last state of that man becomes worse than the first. Even so will it be also to this evil generation.”

He answered,‘ I will not,’ but afterward he changed his mind, and went.He came to the second, and said the same thing. He answered,‘ I’m going, sir,’ but he didn’t go.

But bring those enemies of mine who didn’t want me to reign over them here, and kill them before me.’”

For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more a sacrifice for sins,but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which will devour the adversaries.A man who disregards Moses’ law dies without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses.How much worse punishment do you think he will be judged worthy of who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant with which he was sanctified an unholy thing, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?

But his citizens hated him, and sent an envoy after him, saying,‘ We don’t want this man to reign over us.’

What was sown on the rocky places, this is he who hears the word, and immediately with joy receives it;yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while. Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead in itself.Yes, a man will say,“ You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without works, and I will show you my faith by my works.You believe that God is one. You do well. The demons also believe, and shudder.But do you want to know, vain man, that faith apart from works is dead?Wasn’t Abraham our father justified by works, in that he offered up Isaac his son on the altar?You see that faith worked with his works, and by works faith was perfected.So the Scripture was fulfilled which says,“ Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him as righteousness,” and he was called the friend of God.You see then that by works, a man is justified, and not only by faith.In the same way, wasn’t Rahab the prostitute also justified by works, in that she received the messengers and sent them out another way?For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead.

For if, after they have escaped the defilement of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in it and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first.

I tell you, it will be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city.“ Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you.You, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades.Whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever rejects you rejects me. Whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.”

That servant, who knew his lord’s will, and didn’t prepare, nor do what he wanted, will be beaten with many stripes,

But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves.For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror;for he sees himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.But he who looks into the perfect law of freedom and continues, not being a hearer who forgets, but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in what he does.If anyone among you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn’t bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless.

Punishing them often in all the synagogues, I tried to make them blaspheme. Being exceedingly enraged against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities.

For I know that after my departure, vicious wolves will enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

“ As for the word that you have spoken to us in Yahweh’s name, we will not listen to you.But we will certainly perform every word that has gone out of our mouth, to burn incense to the queen of the sky, and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then had we plenty of food, and were well, and saw no evil.

Every branch in me that doesn’t bear fruit, he takes away. Every branch that bears fruit, he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.

“ Why do you call me,‘ Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do the things which I say?

Then many will stumble, and will deliver up one another, and will hate one another.

I will not punish your daughters when they play the prostitute, nor your brides when they commit adultery; because the men consort with prostitutes, and they sacrifice with the shrine prostitutes; so the people without understanding will come to ruin.
