So when the crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them,“ Which one do you want me to release to you: Jesus Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?”

倘若你們以事奉永恆主為不好，那麼你們今日就可以選擇你們所要事奉的：到底是你們列祖在大河那邊所事奉的神呢？還是你們住於其地的亞摩利人的神呢？至於我和我的家呢、我們是必定事奉永恆主的。』

於是他們嚷着說：『除掉！除掉！釘他十字架！』彼拉多對他們說：『你們的王、我給釘十字架？』祭司長回答說：『除了該撒、我們沒有王！』

以利亞湊近眾民面前，說：『你們猶豫於兩可之間、要到幾時呢？如果永恆主是上帝，你們就應該隨從永恆主；如果巴力是上帝，你們就隨從巴力好啦。』眾民一句話也不回答。

彼拉多回答他們說：『你們要我釋放猶太人的王給你們麼？』他原知道祭司長是因了嫉妒才把耶穌送交上來的。祭司長卻挑唆羣眾寧可要他釋放巴拉巴給他們。彼拉多又應時對他們說：『那麼你們所稱為猶太人的王的、我要怎麼辦呢？』

總督應時問他們說：『這兩人中，你們要我釋放哪一個給你們？』他們說：『巴拉巴。』彼拉多對他們說：『那麼這所謂基督的耶穌、我要怎麼辦呢？』眾人說：『給釘十字架！』

雅各生約瑟、馬利亞的丈夫；那稱為基督的耶穌是由馬利亞生的。
