When he had tasted it, he would not drink.When they had crucified him, they divided his clothing among them, casting lots,and they sat and watched him there.They set up over his head the accusation against him written,“ THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS.”Then there were two robbers crucified with him, one on his right hand and one on the left.Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads,and saying,“ You who destroy the temple, and build it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross!”Likewise the chief priests also mocking, with the scribes, the Pharisees, and the elders, said,“ He saved others, but he can’t save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in him.He trusts in God. Let God deliver him now, if he wants him; for he said,‘ I am the Son of God.’”The robbers also who were crucified with him cast on him the same reproach.

Herod with his soldiers humiliated him and mocked him. Dressing him in luxurious clothing, they sent him back to Pilate.

They open their mouths wide against me, lions tearing prey and roaring.

The high priest tore his clothes, and said,“ What further need have we of witnesses?

The soldiers twisted thorns into a crown, and put it on his head, and dressed him in a purple garment.They kept saying,“ Hail, King of the Jews!” and they kept slapping him.

For the law was given through Moses. Grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.

But he answered them,“ An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, but no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet.For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
