Again Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water’s edge.

耶穌復赴河濱、眾爭就之、為施訓焉。

維時、耶穌立於日內色湖濱、眾爭欲聆天主道、不勝擁擠、耶穌見二舟泊湖邊、漁人在外滌網、其一為西門所有；耶穌登焉、囑移舟稍離岸、乃坐而訓眾。

眾自諸邑蜂集、爭就耶穌；耶穌為設譬曰：『昔有播種者、出而播種；種有落道旁者、行人踐之、飛鳥啄之；有落磽确者、以地無澤潤、旋茁旋槁；有落荊棘中者、荊棘叢生、卒被掩蔽；有落沃土者、發榮滋長、結實百倍。』諭畢、揚聲而呼曰：『凡有耳者、其諦聽焉！』門徒問斯譬之旨、耶穌曰：『天主國之奧義、賜爾知之；為他人惟設譬而已。彼乃所謂視而不見、聞而不悟者也。

即日、耶穌外出、憩於海濱。以民眾蝟集、遂登舟而坐、眾鵠立岸上。乃多方設喻而訓之曰：『有農人出而播種、播時、或落道旁、鳥來啄之；或落磽确、積壤淺薄、發萌迅疾、日出曝之、則苗槁矣、以無根故也；或落棘中、棘漸長而蔽之；或落佳壤、則暢茂條達、有蕡其實、有百倍者、有六十倍者、有三十倍者。凡有耳者、其諦聽焉。』門徒進曰：『夫子訓眾、必以譬喻何也？』耶穌曰：『天國之蘊奧、賜爾知之、不賜若輩；誠以有者益之、使沛然充溢、而無者並奪其所有。若輩視而不見、聽而不聞、冥頑不悟、故以譬喻訓之。意灑雅之預言、實應於若輩之身矣。其言曰：斯民之心、已成頑梗；厥耳重聽、厥目自閉、若恐其目之有見、耳之有聞、心之有悟、幡然回頭、而獲救於我也。」

耶穌偕諸徒退處海濱、而加利利與猶太人紛紛踵至；
