蓋吾人之得救也、實有恃乎望德；然已見之望、非望也；夫人於目前之事、亦何所用其望乎？正惟不見、故渴望之、且堅忍熱烈而期待之也。

此數人者、皆懷抱信德而死、生前未見恩諾之通盤實現、惟高瞻遠矚、延頸舉踵企而迎之。同時復自認人生在世、猶如羇旅他鄉、暫作過客而已。

蓋世間所有、不外物欲聲色、榮華富貴。凡此皆非本乎天父、乃本乎人世。而人世及其所貪圖者、皆暫而不久、俯仰之間、已為陳跡。惟有遵行天主聖意之人、可大可久、永古長存。

此即永生、亦即天主所夙許於吾人之恩諾也。

寧願與天主之民同受困苦、不願於須臾之間與罪人同享逸樂。在摩西之心目中、基督之垢辱、實富於埃及之寶庫也。何則、其所見者大。其所望者遠也。厥後又憑信德、不恤君王之震怒、而逃出埃及。蓋其心目中常有形而上之天主、故能百折不撓、磨而不磷也。

而致景仰於耶穌乎？耶穌者、乃吾人信德之金聲玉振也。曩者彼為前途不可思議之神樂、而甘嘗垢辱、毅然肩負苦架。今則安坐天主寶位之右矣。爾等當細心體驗、耶穌當時如何忍受群小之拂逆、庶幾不致灰心而自餒。

遂群就天戮；而善者則享永生。』
